Tuesday, 8pm Witness the next round of talented Australian designers - the firefighting graduating class of fashion design students from Raffles College is staging a catwalk show of its creations. The theme is "The Armourists" and the students have designed their pieces with the ideas of armour and protection in mind. CarriageWorks, 245 Wilson Street, Eveleigh. $10, includes drink on arrival.

Saturday, 1pm Uber-cool record label Modular is putting on a show to make you dance so much you'll be tired for days afterwards. Nevereverland is a celebration of 10 years of Modular and much of the label's roster will be there: Klaxons, Cut Copy, Muscles, the Presets, Ladyhawke, Van She and Bumblebeez will be hitting the stage, alongside overseas (and non-Modular) acts Hercules & Love Affair and Whitest Boy Alive. Ticket price includes a CD. Hordern Pavilion Entertainment Quarter. $99.95. Phone 132 849 or see ticketek.com.au.

Sign up for the Cole Classic, the popular ocean swim that attracts more than 3000 competitors. Get in training for the one- or two-kilometre races that kick off at Shelley Beach and Manly Beach respectively on February 1 next year. This time the swim is organised by the events team at Fairfax, publisher of The Sun-Herald, and is a fund-raiser for a number of causes, including the redevelopment of the Manly Life Saving Club. Online (and cheaper) registrations close on December 19, after which it's a gamble until the race is full. Entry fees range from $35 to $110. For details see coleclassic.com.

Saturday, 10am What's cheap, environmentally friendly and fash-mag stylish? Vintage, dahling, vintage. And you can sift through some of the best second-hand finds in Sydney at the Vanity Fair Vintage Fashion Market. More than 30 vintage dealers will take up floor space in the hall, selling clothes, jewellery, accessories and more, including new children's toys made out of second-hand materials. Until 4pm. Leichhardt Town Hall, corner Norton and Marion streets, Leichhardt. $4/$2 at the door. See vanityfairmarkets.com.

Monday, 7.30pm If you've harboured a secret desire to see the opera but were put off by the price or the la-dee-da highbrow nature of it, your time has come. The Pinchgut Opera says it'll refund your ticket price if you rock up to its production of David And Jonathan and don't enjoy it. The French baroque opera by Charpentier doesn't often see the stage - Pinchgut is known for giving life to rarely performed works - but it may be the one that converts you into a fully fledged opera lover. City Recital Hall, Angel Place, Sydney. $30-$115. Phone (02) 8256 2222 or see cityrecitalhall.com.
